Stuff & Things | Life

It's Monday afternoon and I'm sitting here, feeling all sorry for myself because I was hoping to avoid going to the Carols night at Punky's school because it's hot, I'm tired, and the last thing I feel like doing is sitting in the sun on the school oval by myself with two kids. Dave is on night shift and I had planned on having a night doing nothing but binging Downton Abbey on Netflix, but alas. She came home from school all excited to go and begged me to please, please take her, so what can I say? How can I refuse her?

In the grand scheme of life it's not a big deal, and there are certainly worse things in the world, I know. For instance, facing the prospect of your kid being in hospital over Christmas.

On Tuesday last week I left the house at 7am to head over to The Children's Hospital at Westmead to help out behind the scenes filming the wonderful work of The Heart Project's Christmas Wish 2017. Karen Alsop (Story Art) & her wonderful team of photographers & helpers spent three days visiting 3 children's hospitals in Melbourne, Adelaide & Sydney to spread a little Christmas cheer and take Santa photos with a difference.

If you follow me on social media you may have seen a video I posted with the very best Santa I've ever met. He absolutely embodied the spirit of Christmas and seeing him interact with the kids in hospital and the joy he brought them was a real privilege.

Meeting those kids & hearing about the way they're facing their illnesses with a smile on their face & the love & support of their devoted parents & families certainly puts things like having to attend a school Christmas carol night in perspective.

If you head over to the The Heart Project on Facebook tonight you'll be able to see the video my talented friend & mentor Courtney Holmes has produced to showcase the Christmas Wish 2017 and see the amazing Santa photos Karen created for these special kids.

At the end of November I delivered the photos & slideshow to Lenny & Kate, the beautiful couple whose Sydney wedding I photographed back in October. I promised I'd share some of it with you here, so here are some of my favourite images from the day...

If you head over to my business website you can check out the full blog post with lots of images and the video of their day that I created for them (hint: their first dance was amazing, best I've ever seen!).

In between editing wedding photos I somehow found the time to edit together a little film I shot back in September of the girls and Dave having fun on the trampoline together. I decided earlier in the year that I really wanted to create a quarterly film as a kind of visual love letter to the girls and so I created one in summer, autumn, winter and now spring (appropriately titled Springtime, because who doesn't love a good pun!)...
