Engaging stories | Life

I am so close to finishing editing the wedding I shot at the end of October I can almost taste it! Editing is one of the fun parts of being a photographer, but even when you love it, when you're working on such a big job you really need to take a break and step away from it so you can come back with fresh eyes.

I'm really looking forward to putting together the slideshow when I'm done so I can show you guys how gorgeous this couple were, so loved up and FUN! Working on all of these wedding photos has had me thinking back to my own wedding and I thought I'd share a few of my favourite photos from the day, as well as my engagement story with you today.

Babies!!!

Full disclosure, this walk down memory lane has also been prompted by the fact that on Saturday it was the anniversary of when Dave and I got engaged. 11 years since we went & had a nice dinner at Centrepoint Tower's revolving restaurant and he handed over the ring we'd chosen together the weekend before.

Ours wasn't your typical engagement. Neither of us is really into grand gestures of romance or anything like that. Our engagement almost came about by accident, to be honest!

We'd been at a friend's wedding a few weeks earlier, and we were sitting up in our room at his parent's house, chatting about their wedding. Dave mentioned the fact that when we got married, he'd really like to have our wedding on the anniversary of when we first started going out, he liked the date, and he figured that would make it easy for us to remember years down the track.

So we had a look at the calendar on my phone and decided that whenever the 2nd August next fell on a Saturday, that would be when we'd get married. It was November 2006, and the next time 02/08 was a Saturday would be in 2 years time, 2008. So that was it, our wedding date was set.

The next day we were chatting some more and I asked Dave if the fact that we'd set a wedding date meant that we were now, in fact, engaged. He agreed that we most likely were, and suggested we should go have a look at some rings. So off we went and bought one that afternoon.

We decided the following weekend we'd go have a nice dinner in the city and that's when we would get "officially" engaged. I was sworn to secrecy until then, and let me tell you, that was one loooooong week!
10 years & 2 kids after we got engaged... we've obviously gone mad!

So finally, on the 11th November 2006, we made our engagement official, he gave me the ring and the deal was sealed. And just under 2 years later we got married.

And that, my friends, is the totally unromantic, but lovely nonetheless, story of how we got engaged!

Now it's your turn... tell me your engagement story or the best engagement story you've ever heard, I LOVE hearing them!
