Neon Lights

Yesterday's post featured a Woody Allen quote on a photograph that I took, and today I wanted to share a few more of the photos from that evening...

In 2007 I got my very first DSLR, a second-hand Canon EOS 1D. These are some of the first shots I took with it, experimenting with some long exposures to capture the light trails of these little lights my BIL had attached to string to swing around and play with at raves. These are some of my favourite shots (please note that some of the quality of the images has been lost due to reducing their size for web publication. Please visit my tumblr blog here to see hi-res versions).

The Land of What-If?

The Land of What-If? is a loathsome land. A land populated with unanswered questions, bargaining, heartbreak and loss.

Easy Toddler Craft Ideas: Ziplock Bag Painting

If you've read my blog before then you might have an inkling about the fact that I am a lazy girl. I am always looking for shortcuts and easier ways of doing things. Ways to make life less stressful and more laid-back.

Unfortunately for my daughters I have the same philosophy when it comes to toddler crafts. If it's too much effort it just won't happen. Which is why I've been on a mission to find simple, minimal-mess and fuss-free easy toddler crafts. And the toddler activity idea I'm sharing today doesn't get any more mess-free than this!

Yarramundi Dreaming - Flying High on the Hawkesbury River

Top 5 Activities for 2 Year Olds

activities for 2 year olds
It's no secret that I'm a bit of a lazy girl. Ok, a lot of a lazy girl! I hate anything to do with housework and cleaning, and if there is a shortcut, or easier way of doing things, I'll find it and take it!

This sadly, for my daughter, also applies to kids activities. Especially now that I have a baby to look after as well. I don't have time to be setting up elaborate craft and other such activities, and I certainly don't have the time or the inclination to be doing a lot of cleaning up afterwards.

Which is why I have made it my mission to find 2 year old crafts & activities to do with Punky that are easy and simple to set-up, with minimal mess, fuss and cleaning afterwards. A happy toddler makes a happy mother, and a mother who doesn't have to clean up more mess than necessary is even happier!

So today, I present to you my top 5

9th March 2014 - This afternoon we went to the library and then we went to the park for dinner afterwards. You had lots of fun watching Punky running around and just generally enjoyed being outside in the fresh air.

9th March 2014 - Today we visited the library for the first time and you thought it was brilliant, especially this table with all those beads you can push around on wire.

I was a Teenage Choir Nerd

Growing up I have always been singing for one way or another. Its started out as a little kid,  was obsessed with music and Mum has video of me dancing around the lounge room with my microphone, twirling the cord (there were no cordless mics in the early 80s!) and singing to my favourite song and one of my first records, Frankie, by Sister Sledge.

Since then I was always in choir at school and sang at church. In high school I was in the vocal ensemble, as well as various small singing groups, as well as the NSW State Vocal Ensemble. I was also in a band for about 6 months back in 2008 but had to leave due to needing more time to organise our wedding.

I've performed at church services, carols by candlelights, official state ANZAC Day ceremonies, the Paralympic games, Schools Spectaculars, Australia Day concerts, Sydney Town Hall, and hundreds of private company functions. Not to mention having performed at my most favourite venue of all, the Sydney Opera House, too many times to count.

Today at The Lounge, over on Robomum's blog the theme is music, so I thought I'd share with you some of the highlights of my 90s singing career!

The Keepin' it Real Files - March 2014

I am a firm believer in keeping it real. Whether it be online or offline, I try to be as honest as I can about my life. I don't see the point in airbushing things (unless of course you're talking about a giant pimple on my chin, I'd probably airbrush that. But only if it was in a picture I intended on hanging on my wall. Nobody wants to see that shiz!).

I also hate the distinction IRL or In Real Life. Everything is real life. What we post online, what we do offline. Online stuff is not fake, or magical or make believe. Not to me anyway. It's all just my life. The only distinction is some of it is lived on the internet and some of it is not. It's all real. And I think more people need to remember that.

Maybe people might start to think twice before they post some of the shit they do online, if they treated their interactions online in the same way they treat their interactions offline. The way the world is today, we can't afford for people to still be thinking that their online life isn't "real life" and the usual rules of common society don't apply when hangin' out online.

But I digress.
I was going to add arrows pointing to all the mess but I would have had to include so many that they would cover all the mess. Just ignore the cute kids and look in the background of the pics and you'll get an idea of the mess I'm talking about.

Low Calorie Chocolate Brownie in a Mug | Food

Yeah, yeah, I know. The words Low Calorie and Chocolate Brownie being used together in a sentence seems like a bit of an oxymoron right? And if you ate one of these every day it probably would stop being guilt-free! But something I've learned about myself, while undertaking Operation Lose Baby Weight, is that I need to treat myself every once in a while. And this is the perfect way! With this Chocolate Mug Brownie you can have the pleasure, without the side-serving of guilt that usually comes with it!

In my quest to find the perfect mug cake/brownie that's both delicious and not too bad for the waistline, I came across this recipe that claims it's under 100 calories. Now I'm not sure how accurate that is but I am going to believe that it is around the 100 calorie mark. When it's a once in a while treat I can afford the extra few calories give or take! {Edited to note: I have since done my own calculations using My Fitness Pal and it would seem that it's actually just under 200 calories. Which is still pretty awesome for chocolate brownie goodness!}
