I Feel Like I'm Missing a Limb

Back in December, after Christmas, Punky and I traveled down to Wagga with most of my family to visit my sister Katie at her new house.

I took my camera (the big one, the good one, the other love of my life, after Dave and Punky that is!) fully intending to take some pictures but we ended up being so busy and spending so much time just hanging together that I totally forgot to take a single shot.

Yep, I love my camera (this is my first one) so
much that I was taking pictures on
my own wedding day!
As it turns out, I also forgot to bring it home! Yep, that's right, my beloved camera has been living in my sister's house in Wagga since December and I am feeling so lost without it. Almost every day I see something that I want to snap a picture of and go to grab it and its not there. It's like missing a limb. Ok, not entirely like missing a limb. I doubt my step-dad (who actually is missing a limb) would agree with me. But it feels strange all the same.

Thankfully I still have the camera on my phone which I can use, although it is getting to the point where I need to go through and delete some, the photos alone are taking up half the memory of the phone!

And thankfully I only left my camera at Kate's, it could have been so much worse, I could have actually lost it and that would have been absolutely devastating for me! Photography is my creative outlet and while I can still take photos, I can't experiment with the phone camera in the same way I can with the DSLR.

I should be using this time to experiment a little more with my creativity on the iPhone camera and now that I know that I still have almost a month to go without my baby I might just do that.

But in the meantime I will just be thankful that I will get my baby back one day, and thankful for the fact I have other ways to take pictures while she is away.

Is there anything in your life that you would just feel absolutely lost without, not people, but objects, things? It goes without saying that we'd be absolutely lost without certain people in our lives, but what about stuff?

HA HA! Love it! (The post, not that you are missing your camera!) The photo of you in your wedding dress with camera is an absolute classic! I love my DSLR too, and I'm always clicking away. (So many don't understand how pleasurable it is to take photos) Unfortunately I don't take advantage of the DSLR very much and mainly stay in point and shoot mode. One day I really would like to advance further...

I would be lost without my phone... What on earth did we do before Smartphones? It would have been like the dark ages!

Hang in there, a month will go quickly...

Yep, my phone and iPad would definitely be out the door with me!
My camera is a huge one... seriously. Miss 11 looked at me the other week when we were camping and said, "Mum, do you HAVE to bring that thing everywhere we go??? You'd think it was like expensive or something!" :P
Well yes. I do. Even though it weighs a tonne (well around 2.3kg with my big lens - I've put it on the scales). But I *love* it.
I left my phone at home all day today... and I couldn't care less. Until I wanted to take a photo. Go figure!
Hope your "baby" is home soon!

Yes, I really wouldn't survive if I didn't have it to take pics of my new human baby!
No, you don't do it through iTunes. Just go to Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer, by the folder that holds all the drives). Find the drive where the iPhone is attached and keep clicking through the folders til you find the pictures. I usually then order by date and delete the ones I don't want any more. Or cut and paste them across into a folder on your hard drive. Good luck!

When I read this title, I thought it was going to be about you missing Mia when she was at childcare! Ha! Love the selfie wedding photos. I agree a DSLR camera, takes much nicer photos. I've lost my battery charger for mine. At least you have your phone in the meanwhile. Hope you get your camera back soon. x
It's everything 'i' for me too - iphone, ipad, and if I could grab my great big desktop Imac and run that out the door with me too in an emergency, I would! You know you're in trouble when you start dreaming about your camera Kylz… hopefully that hasn't happened yet?? ;)

That's a cute post Kylie. I can understand the sentiment. I got a DSLR camera in May with a 50mm 1.8 lens. Over Christmas, the lens broke somehow. I felt abandoned :( My pictures went from pretty good to ordinary in a flash. After traipsing around, trying to find a solution, I ended up just buying a new one. Well, my husband did. He is kind like that. And knows how much I love my camera - especially my lens! x

You know Kylie, I have to agree with everyone, it's my phone, but it never used to be, which makes me wonder why I have become so reliant on it, and should I be worried about that. What about the good old days?? I hope you and your super camera are reunited soon. Em x

My Iphone! Since I have it, I have to admit that I'm so addicted to it! I always look for it! I love the camera too on the Iphone!

As sad as it is, I really cannot leave the house without my phone. On the few occasions that I have, I feel like I'm naked, or something. Stupid, isn't it? Love that photo of you! Gorgeousness!

I can relate to this too! My computer (2 months past its warranty) burnt it's hard drive earlier this month. No internet, all my blog stuff, all my photo stuff, photoshop, lightroom.... all inaccessible. Thankfully we still have our old PC but it hasn't been the same. Hope to be 'reunited' this week.
Hope you get your baby back asap!!!

I got a new camera for Christmas and need to get it out more. I took heaps of photos on holidays, but haven't taken one since!!

Do I need to have iTunes to do that? I tried connecting my phone to my laptop the other day but it didn't show any files. I have iTunes on my work laptop so I might give that a go tomorrow. Really need to clean it out, with only 16gb on the iPhone it filled fast! Gonna have to get more memory the next time I upgrade that's for sure!

I'd be figuring out a safe way to mail it back! Couldn't live without mine either. Iphone fills up fast!

I'd be lost without my phone. It is the only camera I use, plus all the other obvious features - phone, text, email, internet.

Re the phone filling up, mine had up to 3,000 on it at one time. I do, however, upload all my pictures to my hard drive and the web every time I charge the battery and sync with iTunes. I then go and do a big delete through the computer rather than having to touch on every individual thumbnail within the camera roll.

If you want t a cool iPhone camera app to play with while waiting for your baby to return, try KitCam it is easy and a lot of fun. V
