Why I'll Never Be A Fashion Blogger {Part 2} // Laughs

I wrote a little mini-rant back in April entitled F&%king "Fashion" and Why I'll never be a fashion blogger and it went off like a frog in a sock. Apparently I'm not alone in my disgust for some of today's "fashion". Right now the fucking feral interesting jackets I referenced from Target are being cleared out for less than half price. Surprising? No. Why they were retailed in the first place? We'll never know. Personally, I think the murder of innocent bedspreads needs to be thoroughly investigated. I demand a Royal Commission, dammit!

Moving on from that, I wanted to have another fashion-related whinge. It has been a while since my last one after-all, and this just wouldn't be my blog if I wasn't having a sook about something from time to time!

This time my target is the Outfit of the Day posts you see around the place, mainly on Instagram and Facebook. Now I don't mind checking out everyone's #ootd and #everydaystyle posts, but I just don't know how those who participate do it! And what I really want to know is, that outfit, do you wear that for the majority of the day? Like, do you go from PJs, to your outfit, straight back to your PJs just before bed?

Or, like myself and countless other people (Emily being one who I am certain of!) do you have "home clothes", the clothes that you were when you're kicking around home and would never actually leave the house in? That you wear most of the day but only take a pic of the outfit you wear out of the house?.
Can you believe this little floral gems are currently on clearance at Target? Shocking right?!

And if that's the case, does that not defeat the idea behind #everydaystyle or I do have the wrong idea about it? I genuinely want to know. The thing is, I really admire people who don't spend every day dressed in their dags even when they aren't going anywhere. I wish I could be like that, but I just can't be bothered. I only have so many fucks I can give, and I need to save them for the important stuff.

Like how many coffees is too many and can I have another one even though it's only 10am and I've already had 2? Or for the yelling discipline I seem to be having to dish out to Punky every 5 minutes because apparently "Please don't do that. Please stop doing that Punky. I said No! NO! Stop Punky!" just isn't clear enough that no, you can't bloody well hang off the back of the cheap K-mart high-chair while your sister is in it, because you may well sling-shot her across the room (especially if her Father has put her in there, because the idiot lovely man never does up the god-damn buckles!).

I need what little brainpower I have to be wiley enough to make it look like I am standing in the kitchen doing nothing, when in actual fact I am writing blog posts or faffing on Facebook on my laptop that I have cunningly disguised to look like mess that I am cleaning. Because you know the minute I sit down at the desk and look like I might be doing something that I actually enjoy, that's when both children will decide that they must attach themselves to me and serenade me with a three-part harmony of whinging (I say three because Zee is especially talented at this).

All of these very important things leave me with little time or care factor to put in to clothing and outfits. So I pretty much wear the same thing day in and day, only changing one pair of trackies for another once they get to a point where even the furniture is horrified at the thought of me coming near it with it's accessories of snot, vomit, wee and mooshed up bits of arrowroot biscuit.

Even when I do leave the house, unless it's for a super special occasion such as this, I mostly wear my Mum uniform of jeans and a t-shirt. The only saving grace of course is that I have a wee obsession with scarves, and so own an entire drawer-full, with which I use to cover-up aforementioned snot, vomit, wee and mooshed up bits of arrowroot biscuit.

If I'd have known pre-kids just how handy scarves would be in covering a multitude of stain sins I would have invested in 2 more drawers worth!

So anyway, I thought it might be fun to document my own #ootd and #everydaystyle in true Kylie-"Keepin it real"-style and document it here on the blog for you all. Because I know how desperate you are to see the very latest in arrowroot-coloured coture. Chomping at the bit, to be sure! So here it is, a week in the life of Kylie's Keepin' it Real, Everyday Style (gonna trademark that shit!)...

Yep. That's right. 2 out of 7 days I remembered to take a picture. And as you can see, not much changes from one picture to the next except for a different shirt, and some awesome new toes socks so that I can now wear my thongs in winter! And the fact that I bothered to do a little cleaning of Punky's room. These two pictures pretty much sum up my weeks worth of outfits, and so it really doesn't matter that I only remembered to take two. Plus, I've spared you from my having to be blinded by my shockingly bad "can't take an outfit pic for shit" photography.

You're welcome!

Do you play along with the outfit of the day, everyday style or other fashiony-type stuff on IG, FB and the rest? Or are you woefully unstylish and well and truly entrenched in your SAHM/WAHM/just-can't-be-fecked wardrobe of trackies and/or jeans and tees?

I think you need to start tagging yourself on instagram in your everyday style Kylie, and keep it real!! And I have to say that those floral jackets are just disgusting, they belong on the floor for a rug or something x

you did have different hair - maybe you're a hair blogger....

I'm totally with you on the scarf front. You can wear the same black outfit every day and just add a scarf. Boom! Whole new outfit:) I also own a whole drawer full and have recently discovered Scarf Girl on Facebook so I shall need a bigger drawer soon...

Hahahahaha that was so funny! I have no idea when it comes to fashion so just wing it most days. Really though, I live in exercise clothes!

With you all the way on on the trackies, jeans and tees front. I have nowhere to go these days to dress up all stylish and stuff...It is rather nice when you do get to get out of the trackies though. What the hell is with those jackets?? Im with Carla...They belong on the floor as a rug.

You are now my fashion icon. I have a similar look when at home, except I take up a level and add a polar fleece jacket and Ug boots because I feel the cold. Classy. I'm not much of a scarf person because no neck. I never bother taking photos of anything, fashion, food etc because a) I'm a shit photographer and b) my food and fashion sucks. Love this!

I have at home clothes but unfortunately it often becomes a little too tempting to whizz up to the shopping centre in my at home clothes. I leave my sunglasses on and walk with my head down and at a brisk pace though.

Love this so much!! I like how you've got a different hairstyle and are wearing different things on your feet in the pics. It's very edgy and definitely changes the look entirely ;) Please start a #KKIR movement on instagram. I will be the first to join in!

I love these fashion hashtags myself. For me, I feel better when I look better. So without thinking about it I get up and get dressed. To prove it, I take a picture and share it with the hashtag #everydaystyle and #ootd. Because if I didn't, I may as well stay in bed. So I have found these hashtags, weirdly as good for my wellbeing. So, to answer some of your questions: I tend to leave the outfit on all day, till after school pick up. Sometimes, I might change my shoes if my chronic pain is bad as it stems from my ankles. When I am home for the day, I change into home clothes which are often my husbands. But, as I said earlier, when I don't look good, I tell myself this every time I see myself in a mirror, so I like to look good at home. So I will often leave my scarfs and jewellery on at home, until I am curled up on the couch for the night. I even have a special bowl next to my spot on the couch for my jewellery! Recently, I challenged myself to be comfy at home (which means no jeans, as my belly is too soft and often no underwear, defiantly no bra) and STILL feel like I made an effort and look good. I am started sharing these pictures with the same hashtags three days ago. Ultimately, if you're not interested don't worry about it, fashion and frivolousness isn't for everyone (and it shouldn't be). But if you are interested and want to look better, why should you? Especially if it is good for your self-esteem and self-worth. Oh, and I so WANT that floral jacket on the left!!

Keeping it real - I love it! I do make an effort to get dressed rather than wear trackies the whole time. But I will admit I've been rocking the same sweater for three days straight now (it's not dirty!), so I'm totally on your wavelength.

I used to try...and I even started my own thing #brightmonday to try to kick Mondayitis but yeah. I just don't do selfies so the whole thing fell into a hole!! Thanks for linking up today :)

Love keeping it real! I pretty much live in trackies, but now being a school mum has shown me a whole new world of mummy fashion I'm literally one of may 2 or 3 kindy mums who wears trackies to drop off and pick up like WTF who has actual time before drop off (at 8:30) to look so freakin glamorous!! FYI those quilted numbers are also 40% off at Big W currently ;)
Kylie Purtell said…
I wear my trackies when i eave the house and I don't give a crap as I am warm and comfy!!

Toe socks are so sexy. Especially on you, Kylie :) x

HAHA. Great post. I do post an outfit post ever wednesday but I swear it's because I live in Italy and feel compelled to dress up! Today I went to the grocery store that is below my apartment - black skirt, black shirt and no makeup and glasses. They asked me if I was ill and told me they could deliver if I needed....
Kylie Purtell said…
Sometimes I even wear the same trackies and shirt to bed, just whip the bras off and I'm set for slumber :D I do make an effort some days to dress to impress, and yes those clothes do stay on all day. I have a laptop on the kitchen bench where I bluffingly faff. But sit down at the PC and I too am the local playground climbing equipment.
Kylie Purtell said…
Always keeping it real Ky, love your work I am varying a variation of what you have up there RIGHT NOW!!! You never fail to amuse and entertain with your wit, and those jackets? WTF alright? My couch also hates me I swear, thanks for linking xx

If I am at home, I am so much a trackies and jumper type girl. If I go out, it's jeans and a top or a pair of tights with a dress or skirt, but I definitely do not do the whole fashion thing or buy brand name clothes. I dress for comfort now (and price tag). I do see everyone posting what they're wearing and admire them, one for having the guts to mix and match crazy colours and patterns (I can't do that) and two for having so many clothes! I'd hate to see my credit card bill if I had a new outfit to wear almost every day.
Kylie Purtell said…
Holy moly, Kylez. You crack me up! Seriously. You keep on keeping it real... fashion blogger I am also not! ;)

Love this. I would be a shocking fashion blogger. I live in my trackies in winter, and shorts and tees in summer!

Love the variation in your outfits! ;)

I would be the worst fashion blogger ever. Most of my clothes have hole and look quite unloved and if it's comfortable I tend to wear it much more than I probably should. I post outfits posts when I have something brand spanking new and feel like it's looking good... sooo... never.
Kylie Purtell said…
You crack me up! I invested in some fancy yoga pants, emu uggies and a few cute hoodies so my sahm uniform was Coles presentable. I figure I wear my slobby clothing every day so they are the items I should spend the money on. Then I got rid of any trackies that were too hideous for the outside world - no temptation. My one huge downfall is my hair though. I am forever looking at fashion bloggers and thinking - do you get up and do your hair every day or does it just look like that? My "bun" could stay on the top of my head without the help of a hair elastic most days, oily dreads don't have much swoosh. And I am OVER jeans, too much muffin top!
Kylie Purtell said…
YES! I need to know this too! I am literally not in the door five minutes before my jeans and bra are off, and trackie pants are on. Even if I know I am going back out again later! Recently I bought a kind of cargo pant/elastic waist tracksuit pant hybrid which I have convinced myself can also pass for outside the house wear. Win win!

HAHA! I take part in #everydaystyle but I only do it on Sundays because I've put effort into my outfit and it's the time that I can get my hubby to take my picture in the morning. Most mornings he's at work by the time I work on an outfit.
Everyone is different in how they approach wearing clothes. For me, I like to put in the effort because it makes me feel better. I can't handle being in my pyjamas all day. Not sure why, but I just don't like it. Guess I will need to get over it quick smart with the arrival of bub number three next week. Have a great weekend gorgeous. Love your humour and keeping it real. x

I love this post! I'm confessing to doing #everydaystyle but I'm not a fashion freak. I know I need to make more of an effort and this consciously makes me actually use my wardrobe instead of reaching for the leggings. I keep mine totally real, I seriously don't wear duvet cover jackets (as you've featured) with teetering heels or anything and if I look boring, I don't care lol!
Kylie Purtell said…
I'm like Sarah @ Creating Contentment - if I look good I automatically feel good! I do weekly #ootd posts and I think it's because I love clothes (not "fashion") and I love putting together outfits and trying new things. My wardrobe is filled with Kmart and Target staples and I love dressing them up to prove you don't need designer clothes to look fab.
Kylie Purtell said…
And the hair! Don't forget the hair!
It's weird, but this post has actually summed up why I just started doing #everydaystyle. (But only with all pics in one hit at the end of the week - nobody really wants to see what I'm wearing every day!) It's made me realise I've got far more items in my wardrobe suitable for everyday lounging than I realised. And it means I actually get out of the house more (even if it's just to the park or for a walk to the servo for a newspaper) because I don't look down at myself and think 'I can't go out in this!' I don't make a huge effort, though. I have one from last week that will go up in next week's montage that's me in my cargoes and an old jumper at the park with the kids. Totes keepin' it real!
AND THOSE JACKETS ARE HIDEOUS. They are seriously the only thing left at my local Target and there are three racks of them.
Kylie Purtell said…
I admire those gorgeous gals who put together amazing outfits each day but I am such a sloth monger and my uggs are so not photo worthy ;) xx
Kylie Purtell said…
Yep,that about sums it up. I love you for this. I wanted to do a similar series on my own 'everyday style' but I couldn't face myself. x
Kylie Purtell said…
I confess, I love the fashion and style of #everydaystyle, but I often have lazy days where I wear yoga pants covered in crumbs, so don't instagram or blog anything!
Kylie Purtell said…
This is awesome Kylez!

I play with the Everyday Style very occasionally and I like looking at the pictures, but if I were to do it every day, it's just the same old clothes constantly recycled. Which let's face it, is how most of us, especially the mother's who stay at home have to do it! I like participating in Style and Shenanigans 1 week style challenges, it does get me to think outside the box, but I can remember last time, I had a great dress that suited the challenge that day, but I was at home, so I did do the unthinkable, put it on, and make up I might add, got my four year old to take the photo, (That's what I want to ask too! How do they get the photos all the time if you don't have access to a full length mirror!), and then changed into my tracksuit and wore the dress the next day to church! It felt like complete vanity! Although I did get put on the end wall of fame, so my vanity was pleased it was worth the effort.

As others have said - the hair, the hair - that' different!
