My Top 5 90s Crushes

It's no secret that I'm a total 90s child and love all things 90s. Of the three and a bit decades I've experienced so far, the "culture" of the 90s is by far my favourite. I've already written about my 90s fashion fails, my favourite 90s board games, my 90s singing career, and one of my favourite songs from the 90s.

So when I saw a post from Babs at Patchwork Cactus on facebook, with a picture from the classic 90s movie Empire Records, I just knew I had the basis for my next IBOT post. And for at least one other post in a few weeks time. Yesterday I asked on my facebook page (click on the above to go to facebook and add your own if you so wish) for people's favourite 90s crushes, so that I could make sure there wasn't someone I was missing that should really be included in my list of...

Collage of 26 of the 90s Heartthrobs from your comments on facebook!

My Top 5 90s Crushes

5. Dean Cain

{Image Source}
Yes you read that right. Dean Cain, he of the fabulous Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. This show first started when I was in year 5, and from the very first moment I laid eyes on Clark Kent I was smitten. I thought he was the most handsome man my 11 year old self had ever seen! In fact, I could go as far as to say that I think he was my first proper celebrity crush.

4. Scott Wolf

Now anyone that was a teenager in the 90s knows about Party of Five. That bastion of emo television about a family of 5 siblings whose parents die and leave them orphans. Scott Wolf played Bailey and I was so in lust with him. I watched that show for Scott and only Scott. He was like a young Tom Cruise (someone who I also fell in love with after seeing him in Top Gun the first time I saw it in 1996) and I couldn't get enough of him. I remember he was the cover guy on an issue of Dolly magazine, and I insisted on buying two copies so that I could cut out the pictures of him from my wall and not have to choose between pictures that were on opposite sides of the same page!

3. Joshua Jackson

Now we all know JJ from Dawson's Creek (Team Pacey ALL THE WAY! Stupid Joey!) but I was in love with him way before then. I first laid eyes on the lush Josh when he was in the movie Champions, more commonly known these days as Mighty Ducks. Putting aside how awesome that movie is, I used to rewind and re-watch the scenes with close-ups of his face, and go to bed dreaming about what it would be like to kiss him.

2. JTT

{Image Source}
The best thing about JTT, otherwise known as Jonathan Taylor Thomas, was that he was on a show that my Mum loved watch, so I didn't have to beg to be allowed to watch it, or have to sneak in to the spare room and watch it when I thought Mum wouldn't know. He was on a family-friend show and it was more than fine for me to be able to sit there and drool over JTT in the presence of my mother. JTT had it all, he was handsome and funny and I had an entire wall dedicated to him in my bedroom at one stage. And then he voiced young Simba in The Lion King and the package was complete!

1. Leonardo DiCaprio

Without a doubt, Leo would have to be my number 1 crush of the 90s. When Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet came out in 1996 I saw it at the movies about 4 times. My best-friend Kylie and I were utterly obsessed. The first thing I ever looked up on the internet, ever, was a Romeo + Juliet/Leonardo DiCaprio fan website. Leo didn't just get one wall in my bedroom, he got them all, with one being specially dedicated to R+J. After seeing him in R+J I then went on to find, hire and watch every other movie he had ever been in, and to this day I still love me a little Leo.

Special Mentions:
Special mentions must be made for some of my other 90s crushes who just didn't quite make the list -
Keanu Reeves in Speed; Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 3rd Rock & 10 Things I Hate About You; Heath Ledger in anything but particularly Two Hands and 10 Things; Tom Cruise in Top Gun (I was a latecomer) and then Jerry Maguire; Joey from New Kids on the Block; George Clooney in ER; Jonathan Brandis from Seaquest DSV; Jeremy Jackson, aka Hobie from Baywatch.

Now it's your turn, your biggest crush from the 90s. Go!

Oh my gosh that brings back the memories! I always liked Michael Vartan on Never Been Kissed (late 90's) he was a HOT teacher!

Lol! Edward Furlong was my number 1 with Jonathan Brandis second. I did make, and then contact cover, an east 17 colage for my bedroom wall.... kinda terrible. And then there is kurt cobain when I went through my grunge faze. Awesome 90's!

Oh yes!!! You got ALL of mine!!! I never watched Party of Five though, but I was so so happy you included JTT and Pacey and Joseph Gordon-Levit (have you seen him now, swoon). Thanks for this l-o-v-e-l-y walk down memory lane.

Oooh, you really liked them clean cut didn't you?! I was quite the opposite (I spy Tupac in that collage up there ;) ), I liked my teen idols with a bit of grit - think Johnny Depp, Keanu in Point Blank, and a whole host of rappers.

I was a Joshua Jackson fan too when he was in the Mighty Ducks movies. I think movie 3 made me have a crush on him and then I loved him as Pacey in Dawsons Creek... most of the time.

I'm not gonna put my top 5 here, but I may (will) adapt the topic a bit for next week - my bloggers block is in full force right now! X Tara @ Hand Me My Sanity

Ohhh, I had a wall of JTT too!! I can remember Mum buying TV Week and at the end of each week I was allowed to have the mag and cut out the pics of all my faves. You have totally nailed this list, spot on! Also thanks for the Empire Records mention, this is one of my favourite movies. I'm now heading over to ebay to try and track down a copy!

JTT, Daniel John's and the guys from East 17 were my faves! And this might sound bad, but I don't think I've ever seen Empire Records!

5, 3 & 2 - YESSS!!!! Dean Cain - the best! :-DDDD

This is the best list ever! I was nodding along with all of them! How did I forget about JTT or Heath or Dean Cain?
Although I did fall out of love with Dean after reading a not very nice article about him at the dentist one time.

What a blast from the past. I was an 90's girl too. I was a Leo lover all the way. Wall was covered in every single Leo poster ever created I'm pretty sure.... so apart from Leo, where did all the rest of them go???
Kylie Purtell said…
Never really got into any of the above heart throbs but I did like David whatshisname from the x Files. Apparently he's a bit of a rat bag IRL, though. Oh well, he still looks good!

Leonardo and Richard Greico - (sp) from 21 Jump Street! And Scott Wolf - hubby! Great trip down memory lane girl - Em - also visiting as part of #teamIBOT but you know I'd get there eventually xx

No mention for Johnny Depp, huh? Thanks Em for reminding me of Richard Grieco, all that talent in one spot, I used to feel sorry for Pete De Louise and so took out a little pity crush on him. And Dean Cain? Thanks for the reminder! You had a bestie Kylie? You remember the first thing you ever searched on the web? Nerdy-cool chick you are.
