10 Years Ago Today...

A wise woman once told me this quote -
When you born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life in such a way that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice.

10 years ago today I turned 19. I also spoke those words above at that wise woman's funeral.

That wise woman was my Grandma, probably one of the greatest women I have ever known.
My Grandma with her Citizen of the Year Award.
This photo was taken about 4 months before she died

She gave her life to serving others and her beloved Saviour, Jesus Christ, and from her I learnt how to be loving, kind, compassionate and caring.

Most people would not be happy to have to attend the funeral of someone so close to them on their birthday, but I was honoured that my birthday was the day we celebrated the life of someone who had such an influence on myself and others.

Every year on my birthday I remember that day, but more than that, I remember the woman my Grandmother was and the lessons she taught me, reminded that as I get another year older I have the opportunity to live my life in a way that would make her proud.

I won't go into the details of just how fantastic she was as I have already written about her before here, but I would love it if you would have a read of that post so you can see for yourself just how beautiful and awesome she really was.

So today, as I celebrate the last birthday of my 20's, I remember Grandma and all the wonderful things she did.

Long gone, but never forgotten.
