Linky Lovin' Friday {29th August 2014} // Reading
I'm gonna keep this short and sweet today because I know it's gonna be a bit quiet in the blogosphere this weekend with what seems like everyone on the Gold Coast for the ProBlogger conference. I can tell you I'm not jealous at all. At all. Seriously, who wants to swan around on the Gold Coast in a swanky hotel, surrounded by a bunch of bloggers???

What does Carl say about you? // Life
Carl? Carl? Who the hell is Carl? I hear you ask. Well, according to Carl-Jung.net, -
Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961) had a significant contribution to the psychoanalytical movement and is generally considered as the prototype of the dissident through the impact of his scission and the amplification of the movement he created in his turn (analytical psychology).

Stepping Out: Do you wanna have your photo taken? // Photography
I had an epiphany this week. It was after reading a post by the lovely Kelly Exeter about saying no. I realised that I was saying yes to the wrong things, which meant I was having to say no to the things I really want to be doing. Well no more. I'm saying no to poorly paid blogging opportunities that aren't contributing to what I want to do. And yes to doing more of the things that will get me doing what I want to do. Namely, finishing my design fundamentals course and pursing my photography...

Reading Writes {a new monthly link-up for book nerds and other readerly types} // Reading
I've spent the last 8 months immersed in the world of Westeros. Westeros, for those not in the know, is the fictional land where the book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, and the TV series A Game of Thrones, takes place. There's 5 books in the series, 6 if you take in to account that the third one is split in to two books, and they are big reads. Like 800-1000+ pages, big reads. I started the first book on Christmas Day (sweet little Christmas present to myself) and finished the last one a few weeks ago.

Why Not Claiming Workers Compensation is one of the Worst Money Mistakes you can make
Disclaimer: This is a post for Turner Freeman
As many of you would know, my Mum had a serious work accident back at the end of May. While it's been three months and she has improved a lot in that time, there is still a long way to go in her recovery. The chances of her returning to work by the end of the year are not looking good, and if it wasn't for the Workers Compensation that has been covering her medical expenses, my Mum & step-Dad would not be in a very good financial position right now.

Hangin' in the Hawkesbury: Windsor Riverside Markets // Life
On Saturday my sister and BIL came over for the morning and we went and checked out the new Windsor Riverside Markets which are held at Governor Phillip Park in Windsor, in the Hawkesbury region of NSW. Filled with over 100 craft, art, food & fresh produce stalls, the new monthly markets are a great addition to the Hawkesbury local calendar...
Easy Toddler Craft Ideas: Block Painting | For the Kids
We bought Punky a big container of wooden block shapes for her 1st birthday back in 2012. Inside the container was a pack of coloured wooden shape blocks and also a pack of plain, unfinished block shapes. I put the plain ones away and left the coloured ones out to play. I'm so glad I did this now, as browsing on Pinterest the other day I found the perfect use for the plain blocks I've had sitting in the cupboard for almost 2 years!

Linky Lovin' Friday {15th August 2014}
In light of my recent post about Blog Rolls I thought I might try something new in the form of a Linky Lovin' Friday. The idea being that every Friday (or as close to every Friday as possible, let's face it, sometimes life just gets in the way!) I'll write a quick post with some of the things I've been reading and enjoying for the week.
It will be a mixed bag of posts that have really struck a chord with me, interesting blogging tips and tricks I've found around the traps, and basically just anything that has caught my eye and taken my fancy.
And so, without further ado, please get ready for the first instalment of Linky Lovin' Friday!

What Winter Looks Like {July 2014} //Photography
This is what July 2014 looked like in the Purtell household. Through the lens of my iPhone camera. Be warned. The little bugger took a lot of pictures. I have no idea how that happened!
Let's Talk About Blogging... Blog Rolls | Blogging
I've noticed lately though that not many bloggers have them anymore. Especially amongst the 'newer' blogging set, Blog Rolls seem to be a dying breed. It saddens me. I think all bloggers should have a Blog Roll somewhere on their blog, and here's why...

Baby Zee is not a Baby anymore! // Love
Last Wednesday my little Baby Zee turned 1! We didn't have a big party or anything, it wouldn't have felt right to have a party without Mum there, so we celebrated small instead. On the Wednesday night, Zee's actual birthday, we went to Mum's place and had dinner and a cake together. The following night we went up to Dave's parent's place and had dinner and delicious cupcakes. I think Zee had a good day, although I think the fact that it was her birthday was lost on her! Punky, however knew exactly what was going on and it was hard to keep her out of the present-opening! She was a good help with blowing out the candles though...

How to make a relationship last | Love
I don't profess to be an expert when it comes to relationships. I'm a believer that there is always something more we can be learning, and I think that applies equally to love and life.
Dave and I have been together for a while now. 12 years last Saturday, August 2nd, to be exact (6 of those married). It hasn't all been rainbows and unicorn farts over the years though. Like any relationship there have been ups and downs. No matter where we are in the cycle though, there is one thing we both know is vital for the success of a long-term relationship. Communication.

Top 5 Tips for Getting Savvy with your Finances // Life
Disclaimer: This post is bought to you by Knowledge to Action
On Tuesday I wrote about the fact that I have decided not to go back to work now that I have finished my maternity leave. It's the first time in my adult life that I won't have any formal employment outside of the home and it's a scary prospect. I wrote -
Knowing that we are going to be living off one wage for an indefinite period has been daunting at times. But we've set ourselves up so that it doesn't have to be, and to make the financial side of things fairly easy to manage, as long as we are disciplined and stick to our budget.Financial discipline is not always easy, especially when you like bright & shiny things like I do, but there are a few simple things you can do to make life a little easier, whether you're living off one wage or two, and I thought I'd share some of the things that work for us.
