Katherine to Sydney or Bust! {Adventures in Manual Mode} // Photography
At the beginning of last year I set myself the challenge of shooting in manual mode as much as possible, in order to work on my photography skills and really see what I was capable of. I've been working at it, and I think I am definitely getting better. I'm still not confident to go 100% manual, especially in situations where certain moments just can't be missed, but in situations where there are no time constraints I can have some fun and really experiment.
I've also been working on my editing skills. I discovered some awesome Photoshop actions from Greater than Gatsby. I only have the free samples at the moment, but I intend on buying a couple of collections once I get my new computer (it's on order, hopefully only a week or two more away!). I've only used the basic Clean Edit action on these, and bumped up the vibrancy on some to really make the colours pop.
I'd love to hear what you think of these, I always love getting feedback on my photography practice, good or bad. It all helps me to get better and work on different things. All of these shots were taken on my Canon 600D with a 50mm f/1.8 lens (the nifty fifty).

I so want to be able to run - people like you truly inspire me hun and maybe this time next year I can also have that head slapping moment after a run... maybe... you never know ;) xx
ReplyDeleteI'm so bummed that Little Moments isn't available on Android yet..I'm almost tempted to fire up my old eyephone just to have a play with it. At the moment I am loving that I never skimp on good tissues because I have a shocking head cold!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a professional shoot. You are doing so well with manual minstrel you! I hope to have my shots looking like yours by the end of the year.

ReplyDeleteThese are lovely, as you can see on my site today I'm just new to this flash camera bizzo but I can't wait to start using the camera the way I used to 12 years ago, manually!
ReplyDeleteWow such lovely vivid shots! Go you! I wish I could get myself sorted in manual mode. I have a go sometimes when I've got the time and patience to fiddle but I can't say I've had success like this!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful

ReplyDeleteWhat a fab job, Kylez. You are doing so wonderfully. It's time consuming though, isn't it? I'm learning too. X
ReplyDeleteI am feeling in the lurch with my handy and now not-so-handy android device! I wanna play on Little Moments too! Bloggin' with Pip sure sounds like all kinds of amaze... you'll catch up when you can. These blogs of ours are good at waiting, unlike the rest of the crazy things in our lives. X
ReplyDeleteGosh they are awesome photos. I can't wait til I own a better camera. I use manual quite a bit on my cheapo Target jobby, I actually enjoy learning, but I wish I had more opportunity to concentrate on it.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. Well done. I broke my SLR, might need to buy a new one x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous images, you have a real talent.
ReplyDeleteMy DSLR lens is borked , so I've hardly picked it up.
Just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Captures!
ReplyDeleteI love the little moments app too x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful light honey and I love the blurred background.
ReplyDeleteThey are great photo's Kylie! Well done! I love PS actions but be careful with portrait type shots because they can add an unnatural colour cast to the skin. This can be fixed if you know how to add a layer mask and brush away the action from the areas you don't want it.
ReplyDeleteYou've been busy Kylie. I've downloaded little moments and I'm hoping to get some time to play around with it over the weekend. My photography skills need all the help they can get:-)
ReplyDeleteSo jealous I cant get the littlemomentsapp it looks so awesome!
ReplyDeleteI wish the Little Moments app was out on Android...sigh. Don't think that's going to happen any time soon though. And how good is running/exericising?! Gotta love it! :) Enjoyed this 'love'ly post...going to check out that blogging course.
