Cartoon-a-palooza!

This week over at The Lounge, which is being hosted by the lovely Tegan at Musings of the Misguided, the theme is Cartoons. So of course I had to join in, given my, ahem, love of a certain cartoon Piggy!

When I was a kid I didn't watch a lot of cartoons.

I watched a heap of them! Whatever was on, I watched it.

Loony Tunes, Duck Tales. Gummi Bears. Bob in a Bottle. The Smurfs. My Little Pony. Care Bears. Strawberry Shortcake. Rainbow Bright.

Rainbow Bright was my favourite as a small girl. I loved the bight colours and I was desperate for a Rainbow Bright doll of my own. Never got one though. Santa, if you're reading this, I still think you're a bastard for that! I mean, you bought me a friggin Barbie doll when my loathing for them was clear, but bring me a doll I actually wanted? Noooo, that would be too easy!

I had a collection of My Little Ponys that I loved to death. I used to play with them all the time, practising my plaiting with their manes, lining them up on my bedside table. And then one day, not long after I started school, I came home to find that my little sister and the friend she'd had over had drawn all over them with pen! They were ruined! I was so angry and so upset, and never really played with them again after that.

Ahem. Obviously I have issues from my early childhood that I need to work on!

As I got older my tastes changed and so did the types of cartoons. I moved on to cartoons like Captain Planet. Widget. Scooby Doo. Ren & Stimpy.

I never got in to The Simpsons when I was younger because it was banned in our house. Mum watched half an episode once and decided that it was not in line with the values she wanted us to be watching, and so it was banned. Which of course meant that we tried to watch it whenever we could!

Don't even mention South Park to her!

I don't mind a bit of South Park every now and then but I can't watch it in large doses. I like the points they try to make about society but sometimes it's just a bit too much for me to handle. Family Guy I struggle with even more. There are definitely funny parts to it but for me, I guess you could say it's almost too edgy.

The cartoon frame that launched a thousand memes!

I love Futurama. Futurama is great. The characters are hilarious, and I love the fact that Fry is from the past, from our era. It just adds such an awesome element to the show.

But most of the cartoons I watch these days are of course the toddler ones.

Miffy. Fireman Sam. Postman Pat. Charlie and Lola. Bananas in Pyjamas. Octonauts. Basically, if it's on ABC 4 Kids then I've seen it. Some of them are alright. You can tolerate them. Most of those I've just listed are bearable. Some I quite like, such as Timmy Time.

Some I absolutely HATE! Like The Mole Sisters. The MOLE Sisters. What the actual eff is that show about?! Not only does it have a terribly unfortunate title (yes of course it's about the animal the mole, but still!), the narrator's voice is so effing annoying! Argh. And sometimes, if you have a filthy mind like me, and you can only hear the narration from the kitchen, your mind gets down in to the gutter and makes that show pure filth!

Still, I'll tolerate even The bloody Mole Sisters if it means I get to have a few dates with my fave leading man.

Daddy Pig, Daddy Pig. Oh how I love thee, Daddy Pig.

I just can't get enough of Peppa Pig and her wonderful Daddy. They should do a spin-off show called Daddy Pig and have it styled like a reality show, following Daddy Pig around throughout the day. I would tape every episode. And probably watch them after Punky has gone to bed.

But I should stop there, before I say something totally inappropriate!
Posted this to Instagram the other day, because I totally am!

Got any favourite cartoons? Did you watch them much as a kid? Do you watch any as an adult?

I have a friend who is obsessed with Rainbow Brite but I don't remember ever watching it, I must be a tad too old. My boys were mainly obsessive with Spectacular Spiderman and Ben 10 with a bit of Sponge Bob Square Pants thrown in. You certainly know it's time for school holidays to end when you know the words to the entire Sponge Bob theme. ARRRRRGGGHHH!

Ok so for mentioning Widget and Captain Planet you earn 1000 badass points - LOVED THEM!!!
Personally I have issues with Peppa Pig... she's bratty and bossy and self-centred and I'm prone to using her as an example of how not to be... but thats just me... I also hate Little Princess and DirtGirlWorld (is that a cartoon?) Passionately, for various reasons...
Fireman Sam we adore, but I miss the old format... and I wish for the days when they played Nickelodeon cartoons on ABC... sigh...

We weren't allowed to watch cartoons when I was kid because my mother believed they "rotted your brain" so I'm loving that motherhood has introduced me into the world of Ninja Turtles, Vikings riding dragons and , Spongebob (speaking of crack) but I have to admit my daughters My Little Pony DVD hurts my brain a little ;-)

Is it a crime to be attracted to an overweight animal that is good at fixing things? That's what most men are, surely!

Penelope is another one that hate...her voice is so incredibly annoying! Also did you know that Pocoyo is narrated by Stephen Fry? I was pretty excited when I found that out. He has such a nice soothing voice.
