One Word - 2014

inspirational quotes, inspiring quotes

I'm not a fan of new years resolutions so I don't make them. But last year I decided on a word for the year, something that I could remember and strive towards and use to motivate me to be a better mother and person. That word was patience.

I'm not so sure I succeeded on the patience front to be honest. Being pregnant for most of the year, and then spending another quarter of it adjusting to life with a new family member, there were times when my patience was sorely tested. Many times I failed to have patience and lost my shit.

But I realised late last year that I needed to make a change and a concerted effort to yell less. Part of learning to yell less includes learning to have more patience, and so in 2014 patience will still be something I will be working towards.

But for 2014 I decided to come up with a new word, like so many other bloggers, and the word I have chosen is determination.

I could have chosen a few different words to be honest, but I think determination sums up how I am feeling about 2014 and what I want to happen. I am determined to have more patience. I am determined to yell less. I am determined to lose weight and get healthy and fit. I am determined to study.

But most of all I am determined to take control of my life and to better myself in as many ways as I can. I am determined to do all the things I've been wanting to do for a long time. Or at least set myself on the path to doing those things.

One of the other words I could have chosen is motivation. Motivation is a big issue for me, and I'm very good at starting things, not so good at finishing them. I've realised that in order to keep up my motivation I have to change my mindset about a few things and I'm working on that too.

One big mindset shift has already occurred, in relation to my weight, health and fitness determination, but I will blog more about that another day. If things fall in to place over the coming weeks and I can harness my motivation then 2014 could be an amazing year for me.

For much of 2013 I felt like I was treading water, waiting for a new baby to arrive or trying to find my feet and navigate life with two kids. Now that Zee is 5 months old I finally feel like we are settling in to our new normal and it's time to start doing a few things for me and getting my life back under control.

I'm excited about the things I have brewing in mind, and the things I have planned. I have the determination to do many things, and I hope that I can keep up the motivation to follow through on them all and make them a reality.

Do you have a word or resolutions for 2014? Is there anything your really determined to do?

Yep - love having a Happy New Word. It has helped direct me for the last two years now. This year's word is "solutions". I enter 2014 with a solutions based mindset. No problems, only solutions. I got a bit frustrated in 2013 with the lack of positive forward movement in some areas and I started to lose my drive and resilience. Won't happen this year! Solutions all the way :)

Happy Tuesday!

Great word, Kylie! That is awesome you are excited about what the year will bring and that you're determined to make things happen for yourself. I couldn't decide on a word this year. There are so many that I would like to adopt. Patience is definitely a good one for me, as is calm. I've written a whole list of intentions instead hoping they will guide me through the year.

How exciting to get back studying, I'm sure it will motivate you in all areas! I need to yell less and be more patient - they are STILL at top of my list. But balance is what I need to achieve. While I can't work less because hubby was made redundant 3 weeks before Xmas and I need to basically earn a full time wage right now as the work he just started this week might not last. I need to find balance and do work at night, not when I have my kids and for now it'll mean less blogging time, as can't feed the kids blogs!!!! You know what I mean though, priorities, hang on maybe that's a better work for me, priority, put things in order of importance and do them that way! Thanks for letting me speak out loud! Can't wait to see what you've discovered about fit/health goals! Congrats on making it through having 2 under 2 - it gets easier I promise xxx

I know it's cliched to have resolutions but I think New Year is good because at least you can re-evaluate your life, your goals and your priorities. Nice post. :)

I've picked a word the last few years and then promptly forgotten about said word come February :) So this year my goal is to just live life and see what happens! 2013 was a bit of a blah year for me. Nothing really exciting has happened for a few years now, probably because I have no determination or motivation! I think I'm just going to sit this one out and see how I go. lol. I have applied to do my Masters degree but still waiting to hear on that. If I get in, then that will be my focus for the next couple of years. x

I think those are great words, Kylie. My 2014 word is experience. Hopefully I'll do better with that than I did with connect last year.

I don't make resolutions or pick a word. But I have decided to get on top of all of last years photos and also process all new ones in a much more efficient and prompt manner! I have already started! #teamIBOT

I was thinking as I read your post that I didn't really think I had a word and thought about what I want to achieve through life this year. One word that came to mine was *organisation*. I feel so much better when I know what is going on, when it's going to happen etc. Being organised helps in so many areas of my life and I really notice it's absence.

Awesome word Kylez! I haven't got mine yet. Been thinking and a few words have popped into my mind, but nothing perfect yet. I'll get it soon.
And I'm sure you will crush this year.

A very strong and motivating word I think Kylie. I so do not do resolutions and have not even contemplated a word. I am just following my heart for now i am too tired to do anything else. Wishing you lots of motivation, determination and revelation for 2014.!

I mentioned that I wanted to pick a word (or a few words) to my husband the other day, and he immediately said "patience" so clearly it is something I need to work on too. I like determination. It's centred. I have decided to go with the words from my tagline - play, create, laugh and love. In other word - less housework, more fun. :)

Oh I love the idea of choosing a word to see you through the year rather than some half hearted resolutions.

I think I will use persevere.

A perfect word - and sentiment behind it - for the year ahead, Kylie. For me right now, life is... crazy. I'm thinking I know where you were. I'm thrilled to here that you are coming out of that confusion, so there's a light ahead for me. I have no doubt that the year ahead will be a great one for you, and wish you all the determination I can muster. X

I think Determination and Motivation dovetail together so nicely, and I'm sure you will achieve everything you set out to do in 2014 :)
