18 Weeks and Counting... A Pregnancy Update

18 weeks and counting. Almost halfway. Where the hell did the last 18 weeks go people, seriously?!?!

My 18 week belly with PJ#2. Much bigger than I was at this stage with Punky, especially after a big dinner!
Please excuse the crappy focus and filthy bathroom mirror
So the last 18 weeks or so have been interesting. I didn't get much morning sickness with Punky. A bit of nausea here and there but that was about it. I did feel like I had a hangover constantly but I think that had more to do with the massive caffeine withdrawal I was going through than anything else!

This time around though I had nausea pretty much constantly from about week 7 to week 15. It's really only been in the last few weeks that I haven't felt sick before and after every meal, and all the time in between! Mercifully I haven't actually had to spew, which is a blessing as I hate to vomit and avoid it all costs, but I've felt like I could constantly.

Weeks 7-15 also saw me with extreme tiredness. I thought I was tired in the first trimester with Mia, but mate, I did not even know the meaning of the word. This time I do! Being in the early stages of pregnancy with a toddler to look after and chase around is so much harder than when I had no-one to look after but myself.

Thankfully though Dave has been an awesome help and I now finally feel a bit more human again, and I'm not falling asleep on the lounge every afternoon during Play School! Let me tell you, Punky was not impressed with that and let me know by gently waking me up on more than one occasion  with a block or something equally as solid to the head.

The last couple of weeks have been characterised by stressing about the bridesmaid dress that I have to fit in to in about two weeks time! Yeah, that was totally not planned well, can I just say, and if I had had any choice in the matter this bubs would have waited a month or two before taking up residence in my uterus!

On the upside, I've only gained 500grams since New Years so I am super stoked about that. It means that I have probably even lost a kilo or two which is not a bad thing and something my midwife is totally cool with, seeing as I was in need of losing more than a few kilos before falling pregnant. The aim is to keep any further weight gain over the next 22 weeks to under 10kgs so fingers crossed!

During the last 12 weeks of being pregnant with Punky, after being diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and having to go on a strict diet, I only put on about 3 kgs which meant that again I was actually losing weight. For someone with my BMI that is actually a good thing. So making healthier choices this time around, being more active, and loosely following the eating plan put in place by the diabetes nutritionist last time, is certainly helping things this time around.
A very wriggly little PJ#2. Totally healthy, with everything in the right place and growing just the way it should.

We've haven't really done anything in the way of preparing the room for PJ#2, but now that we've had our 18-20 week ultrasound and know which parts are between the legs of this bub we will probably start getting on to that. We just have to get through the next few weeks of bucks nights, birthday parties, weddings and conferences and then it's full steam ahead with cleaning out, re-arranging and decorating bedrooms! I can't wait!

I'm trying to enjoy being pregnant as much as possible, as who knows if this will be the last time I'm pregnant. We haven't decided if we'll have three kids or stick with two yet, so I am just trying to make the most of it all.

So that's really it for now on the pregnancy side of things If you're wondering what sex PJ#2 is, there are hints in the text of this post so let me know if you've picked it up in the comments (HINT: the highlighted bold text throughout are not hyperlinks).

Did you find out the sex of your bub/s before they were born or did you wait for that big surprise at the end?

Linking up as always on a Tuesday with Essentially Jess and all the other awesome peeps who Blog on Tuesdays.

Sounds like all is traveling nicely Kylie. I didn't pick up any clues on the sex, though I went to say boy and then I saw everyone else saying congrats for a girl. Go me. Either lots of fairy wishes and butterfly kisses to both you and your beautiful bump

I'm going girl cos the text is pink :) good to see you're enjoying it. now. :)

Yep, I reckon you're pinkifying your blog posts as you think about pinkifying the nursery. Of course, those ultrasounds aren't always right you know.... Don't stress too much about weight gain as long as your lifestyle is healthy. You look well and chasing a toddler will certainly make sure you get your daily exercise! #IBOT :)

Way to stump a nosy journo - GRRR - I can't handle it - and couldn't see the subtle hints - I must be losing my touch! Congrats though. And please don't get hung up too much on weight gain, like I did for all three, I was great throughout and then at the end I became a pork chop of massive proportions and I was devo-ed. TELL ME KY - NOW!!!! Em @ Have a laugh on me

Hope you stay well and get through the next few months with ease ;)

I can't believe you are 18 weeks already either! Yay for another little girl and yay for the sickness and tiredness going away for you.
Kylie Purtell said…
You look awesome Kylez and yay for beating that hideous spewy feeling! I was crook as a chook with Baby Girl and remember how awful that tiredness is too! I bet a little sister was just the flavour ordered and that there is very much excitement!
PS. I found out gender each time, but with Baby Girl the MOTH was adamant he didn't want to know and crappers that was a hard one to keep from him.
Looking forward to watching that bump grow! x
