Forget Me Not
Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. How it didnt happen sooner is something of a miracle!
I'm a bit of a forgetful person. Always have been, but as I've gotten older its gotten worse, and being pregnant and then having a baby certainly didn't help.
My baby brain started at about 12 weeks and hasn't gone away! Not only did I do the usual scatterbrained pregnant lady things, like putting the milk in the cupboard, my keys in the microwave (thankfully I didn't turn it on!) or filling the washing machine with clothes and detergent, only to forget to actually turn it on (although I'll be honest, that's not exclusively a pregnant scatterbrained thing for me!) I couldn't remember stuff to save my life.
I had to record everything on the calendar in my phone and the little diary I carried around in my handbag, and I also had to write down everything that I was supposed to do, otherwise I would have been a mess and missed everything. Heaven help me if I'd lost my phone, I would have had no idea!
Since Punky was born my memory has been a little better, however it's still pretty shit, even by my standards, due to the joy that is sleep deprivation, so my phone calendar and handbag diary are still my best friends. I don't have to list down everything that I need to do anymore, and grabbing a few groceries is a lot easier and quicker, but I do still find it hard to remember all the dates I need to.
Which brings me to this morning. I've switched my work day to today so that I can have the day off tomorrow with Dave and unfortunately my MIL wasn't able to look after Punky for me. So I asked my sister Katie and she was more than happy to do it. (She blogs by the way and is all sorts of awesome so you should totally check her out here!)
This arranging happened about two weeks ago though. So this morning, I'm sitting on the lounge, feeding Punky, half asleep still, and thinking to myself 'Hmm, D's really late this morning' and didn't think more of it.
15 minutes later I'm buttering my toast and I look at the clock and the cogs start turning. My brain wakes up and I think 'Fuuuuuck!'. D can't mind Punky today. Katie is supposed to be doing it! That's why she asked me last night if I still needed her! Bugger, bugger, bugger, bugger, bugger!
I read back through my text messages and sure enough D was not able to babysit and I had asked Katie. Thank god she didn't have other plans, and was still sleeping in bed. Poor thing was woken up by frantic phone call asking if she could still possibly babysit today and ah, leave now! Katie lives 45 minutes away, possibly more with peak-hour traffic.
Thankfully my boss is cool and not fussed by me starting work late today. But boy do I feel like an idiot! It's a good thing I remembered when I did or I wouldn't be working today. Well, I would be working from home, but let's face it, with a 9 month old that isn't totally keen on daytime naps and obsessed with power cords, I would not be getting a lot of work done!
So tell me, make me feel like less of an idiot...what have you forgotten lately? And no i don't have a cool personalised planner to give away to the best forgetter. Maybe if I'd actually managed to win one I wouldn't have forgotten today.
Ah, who am I kidding, I totally would have forgotten to write it in that too!

You know what I don't think it ends...
My mum and sisters were heading out the door to go to my wedding.. when I piped up and said anyone going to help me into my dress? haha baby brains last for years!
#teamIBOT was here to say hello :)
(And as far as I can tell, I can't even get pregnant)
We have someone to help clean once a fort-night and she recently changed from Friday to Wednesday - I didn't write it down - and she did turn up to find our home looking like a tip - luckily K was at home and called me and I spoke to her and she said she would come back tomorrow. I was so embarrassed for her to see it so messy because we always make sure it is tidy (if dusty) when she gets here so I bought her a box of chocolates to make it better !!!
Have a great day !
