Zombies, Vampires & Vampire Zombies

Today feels a little like Christmas Eve. I have been waiting and anticipating this day, and I know that it's not long till I get my presents.

When you're a bit of a nerd like me, things like the new season of a tv show and or the next book in a series or trilogy get you really excited. Like, "Oh shit, I've peed my pants a little" excited!

Earlier this year Foxtel launched a new channel called FX and one of the shows they were advertising caught my eye. I thought "Hmmm, I should tape that, I reckon Dave might like it". Which is saying something, as Dave is very hard to please in the TV-show-watching department. He doesn't like a lot of stuff on TV. But this, I thought this would be something he'd like.

Man was I right! As soon as we started watching it I knew he was gonna love it and sure enough, he wanted to watch episode after episode. And then he started to pester me about when the next ep would be taped and ready to watch.

The show? The Walking Dead. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. We both love it. I have never been a fan of zombie movies and shows, but this is just so much more than that. Yeah, it's a little gory in parts and very suspenseful (is that even a word? Oh well, I'm sticking with it) but it makes you think and question things.

Season 3 starts tonight and I just can't wait. In fact I have told Dave that I am willing to watch it when he gets home from arvo shift, which will be about 11pm. Despite the fact I have to get up for work the next morning. I am just that keen. Plus, I don't really think I can watch it on my own, my imagination would run way too wild!

The other thing I have been not-so-patiently waiting for is the next book by Justin Cronin, The Twelve. If you haven't read the first book in what is said to be a trilogy, The Passage, then you should run to your nearest book store, or surf on over to your preferred ebook retailer and get a copy now! I absolutely loved The Passage, I could not put it down. It was one of those books that I looked forward to getting home to read after work each day and when I had finished it I actually felt a little bit sad. So I immediately read it again! I've now read it three times and it just gets better with every reading.

When I re-did my Top 10 fave books of all time I wrote this about The Passage -
I loved this book and I knew it was going to be in my Top 10 before I had even finished it. It's a fat book, and it took me about 3 or 4 nights of reading to get through. It was one of those books that I thought about during the day while I was at work and couldn't wait to get home to continue reading. Set in a post-apocalyptic USA, the majority of Americans have been wiped out after a military experiment gone wrong is unleashed into the population. The first half chronicles how this happens, while the second part jumps forward 100 years to a group of survivors and that's where things get really interesting. If you haven't read The Passage I highly recommend it, even if post-apocalyptic-style books aren't really your thing. It's simply brilliant! I can't wait for the follow-up, which is due in the next few months I think.

The Twelve is released today and I have already pre-ordered and paid for my copy from Booktopia. I absolutely can not wait for it to arrive, I am so excited. I am envisioning quite a few extremely late nights once it arrives!

So tell me, is there anything you're eagerly awaiting? Do you get a little obsessed and excited about any TV shows or books?

Linking this post up for that awesome of awesome link-up's IBOT, hosted by the equally awesome Jess at Diary of a SAHM.

I easily get obsessed with books and movies. I love anything with vampires and zombies. I thought I would be too old but it appears I am not. I also loved Boardwalk Empire. This show looks awesome. Rachel xx

I watched Season 1 for the Walking Dead and didn't keep up after that haha. I'm waiting excitedly for the next 2 movies after the Hunger Games. I think they are filming now and hope it'll be out soon. For books, I've a pile that I've bought but haven't read finished. Sigh and I don't know when I can!

Please read the comics of walking dead. So much better than the tv show - hate the wussy changes he made with dale. He's softened the tv show for the 'moral' conservatives. We are eagerly awaiting book 16 in the post!
Sadly I'm hanging for Hellboy 3...why are we waiting so long???

I am not much into TV shows or books, mainly because I rarely get the time to complete either! I do love hearing about other people's excitement though.

I'm a FREAK for all things ZomPoc, and The Walking Dead is one of my favourites.

I haven't read Justin Cronin before though, so thanks for the heads up!

Sounds good! But do I dare start, knowing I'll get hooked and don't have the time? Herein lies the predicament...

It really is awesome, you should definitely give it a go. I have been wanting to watch boardwalk empire too, everything I have seen and read about it sounds good.

I absolutely can't wait for the next two hunger games movies! They are gonna be soo good, Iwas so impressed with how well they did the first one. Waiting for the movies is almost as bad as waiting for the books to be written!

You know I only discovered recently that the tv show was based on graphic novels and I said to Dave we should check em out. I think I will definitely have to get my hands on them. I really enjoyed the first two hellboy movies, I thought they were quite good.

You so should Rach, you won't be disappointed.

I must admit I haven't read anywhere near as much books as I would normally do before I had Mia but I do watch a lot of TV on DVD's these days, and most of the time it takes me a day or two to watch one full episode of anything in and around child-wrangling. Most of my tv watching is now done while I'm on the treadmill!

You should definitely read Justin Cronin, I loved The Passage and so far, 70 pages in, The Twelve is shaping up to be just as good.

Do yourself a favour and get your hands on a copy quick smart. It's so worth it!

Lol, I can't watch it unless Dave is at home and not on night shift. If I watched it on the nights he has to go to work and I am in the house by myself I would hardly sleep with my imagination in overdrive from every little noise!

Oh, it's definitely worth the time commitment and a few late nights.
