Best Book Lines

This one comes from a fabulous book I finished the other night called The Girls by Lori Lansens. As I mentioned in my review I really enjoyed this book and I found some fabulous lines.

In an effort to remember the Best Book Lines I find when I'm reading, I have started turning up the bottom corner of the page the quote is on, in the hopes that when I sit down later to write one of these posts I will remember which quote it was that I loved.

So anyway, here is my first Best Book Line from The Girls.

I feel, holding the books, accommodating their weight and breathing their dust, an abiding love. I trust them, in a way that I can't trust my computer, though I couldn't do without it. Books are matter. My books matter.

This brief passage sums up exactly how I feel about books! You all know of my love for books. I love to read them. But I also just love books. I love the smell of them, the feel of them, the beauty of well put-together books. I have been known  to buy a book purely because of the way it has been bound or the paper used or the cover art.

And books are always there. When you pick up a well-loved book, there is a feeling of safety and comfort, the feeling of meeting up with friends you haven't seen for a while.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Thanks.

I must say, it was nice being away on vacation, away from my computer, with only my "matter" book in my hand! I need to put down my laptop more often!!
That's perfect - I feel the same way. I couldn't ever feel the same about a kindle as I feel about a book - it's a ritual for me, turning the page, finding the perfect item to use as a bookmark (usually a receipt or hairband as I can never find any of my many bookmarks when I need them!)
