Tell Them You Love Them
We all know life is short. Some of us are more aware of this than others. It's always a good idea to tell you're loved ones just how much you really do love them and appreciate all that they do for you.
Two years ago, to the day, the whole "life is short" message was really rammed home to me. A good friend of mine was killed in a single-vehicle car accident in January of 2008. She was only 29, would have been 30 that April. As her best-friend said at the funeral "I wanted to be helping you plan your wedding, not planning your funeral".
On Saturday just gone, this message was once again made abundantly clear to me.
A girl I went to school with was married on the 9th January 2010. This Saturday morning just gone, the 16th, a week later, I discovered, via heart-felt messages on Facebook, that her brand-new husband had been killed in a Jeep crash on their honeymoon in Thailand. They had been togethed for 8 years. You may have heard about it on the news or read about it in the papers. If you want, you can read the story on SMH here. That's them in the pic to the right, looking so happy. Brings tears to my eyes.
My heart absolutley breaks for Aimee. While we weren't good friends at school (she was a year under me) we knew each other enough to say hi, have a chat now and then, etc. Stories like these always break my heart, thinking about how absolutely devesating it would be to lose the love of your life, especially less than a week after your wedding, but this feels just a little bit worse because I knew the people involved.
Aimee's facebook page is filled with beautiful messages of condolance, love and support, and I hope that with the help of her family and friends, she will eventually get through this and be able to live the life that Michael would have wanted for her.
I've spent the last few days just feeling sick for her and their families, it's such a tragedy, he was only 26 years old.
But it has reminded me of what is really important, that there is so much in our lives that we worry and stress about, when, in the end, it just doesn't matter. All that matters is that we are loved and show love. Tell your friends, your families, your kids, your boyfriend/girlfriend, your husband or your wife, just how much you love them. Tell them today.
To my beautiful friends and family that read this blog...I LOVE YOU! You are my sunshine, and I wouldn't be who I am today without all of you.
Life is short. Too short.
