Questions for a Bookworm

I found these questions over at Booktagger Blog, who in turn found the questions relating to books circulating around different blogs over the last little while. Feel free to join in and answer the questions on your own blog.

Do you snack while you read?
No. I do most of my reading late at night in bed, so it's not a good idea unless I want to sleep with crumbs

Do you tend to mark your books as you read them, or does the idea of writing on your books horrify you?
I don't mark my books except to put my name and the date in the front when I first get them. The idea of writing in them horrifies me a little, although when I was at Uni I had no problem with it, those text-books were covered in scribbles and highlighter, although I think they are meant to be!

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog ears? Leaving the book open flat?
Depends, either bookmark or tiny dog-ear (I don't like dog-earring them much) when I can't find a bookmark. I never leave my books lying open flat though, that's a sure-fire way to ruin the binding and have a falling-apart book

Fiction, Non-Fiction or both?
Both, I'll read whatever grabs me at the time or whatever I feel in the mood for

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
I have to read to the end of the chapter. I hate stopping half way through as I find it hard to find where I was and get back in to the story and it's just plain wrong (in my twisted mind anyway!)

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?
No, but I wish I did. We don't have a dictionary in our house (something I hope to rectify soon!) so I have to remember what the word was for later when I'm near a computer and can look it up online. Problem is I constantly forget to write down the words!

What are you currently reading?
I just finished reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Again. I needed a HP fix, it's been a few months since my last!) and tonight I will start on the latest in Sue Grafton's Alphabet series.

Are you the type of person who can only read one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?
I usually only read one book at a time, but I can go a few if I need to. Like if I'm in the middle of reading a book and a new one that I have been dying for arrives I will stop reading the other book and go back to it when I have finished the new one, which usually only takes a day or two

Do you prefer series or stand alone books?
I'm not fussed. As long as it's interesting and I like the characters I'll keep reading whether there is one book or it's a 20-book series

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?
Janet Evanovich for funny, light-hearted reads, and of course I always recommend the Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenger and I would recommend her new one as well, Her Fearful Symmetry.

How do you organize your books (by genre, title, author’s last name, etc.)?
I have my non-fiction separate from my fiction. The fiction is sorted straight a-z by author surname and the non-fiction is sorted by genre and then a-z by author surname within the genre. Can you tell I used to work in a bookshop?
