What Have I been Reading Lately? 14.10.09

Ok, so I thought I might try to start a semi-regular post called, you guessed it, What Have I Been Reading Lately.

This last week or so I've been reading 2 books. Geraldine Brooks' novel People of the Book, and the 7th Sookie Stackhouse novel All Together Dead.

I don't always read more than one book at a time, but I have been known to have 3 on the go at certain times. Especially if I'm reading something that's pretty heavy or depressing. Or non-fiction. In fact, now that I think of it, I always have one non-fiction book going at all times. Usually because they are the types of books that are easy to pick up and read a chapter here and there and then leave it for a week or so before i read another chapter.

At the moment, the non-fiction book I've been reading bits of pieces from is called Elephants on Acid and other Bizarre Experiments by Alex Bose. How cool is that cover by the way!
The tag line reads:
From Zombie Kittens to Tickling Machines: The Most outrageous experiments from the history of science

So as you can guess, it's a collection of stories about bizarre scientific experiments from around the world. It's quite fascinating and really easy to read, perfect for when I only have a short amount of time to read and don't want to get sucked into a plot.

Another one I've been flicking through is the Guinness Book of World Records 2010. I will admit to being a collector of these. I only started my proper collection once I started working full time so I have the last 6 or 7. But I got my first Guinness World Records in 1992 when I was 10 and I thought it was just the coolest book ever. And so I've always wanted to collect them and now I have my own money I can!

Anyway, People of the Book is really really good, and I am looking forward to finishing it. The only reason why I haven't is because my SIL gave me the 7th and 8th books in the Sookie Stackhouse series and so I have been reading the 7th, because they are a fast read and I really wanna know what happens! I should finish it tonight, and then I'll start on the 8th.

So that's what I'm currently reading. What are you reading at the moment? What do you plan on reading next?

Guess what I've just read??! A stray BSC book I found tucked in the back of my bookshelf!! Maryanne and the Playground Fight - looks like I got it for $1 in a clearance sale back in 2000 - I was over the moon when I found it as they're OOP now. Such cool stories! I've also just finished "Lost Boy" about a young man who escaped the FLDS cult (weird Mormon church offshoot). I'm fascinated by those kinds of biographies and really enjoyed it, even though it was very sad. Currently reading June Bug - a random "fluff" novel about a girl who finds herself on a missing persons poster. Seems ok so far.
