Cluck! Cluck! Cluck!..The Baby Part

Everyone's having babies and getting married! It's not fair!

Ok, well the getting married part isn't, seeing as I already did that. But the babies part? I haven't done that yet and I want to, but now is just not the time.

Why? I hear you ask?

Because we really need to get our credit card all or mostly paid off before we have kids and we also want to re-do the bathroom and kitchen before then. So we are looking at a couple of years maybe. Not forgetting the pergola and landscaping, the ceiling insulation and getting the trees out the front ripped out!

Which is fine, I know it's the sensible thing to do, but being sensible is no consolation when everyone around you is, or seems to be pregnant and having babies.

In the last year alone, I know at least 15 women who have had babies.

Just last week I found out that one of my closest friends is pregnant with her second child. I am so super excited for her, it's the best news, and she is one of the best mother's I've ever met, but I can't help feeling just a tiny bit jealous of her gorgeous son and the baby she is soon to have.

So, in consolation, I've turned to pets. Yes, pets.

We now have 10! (2 guinea pigs, 3 quail...who are sitting on eggs so we could increase pet numbers exponentially in the coming week or so...2 mice, 1 budgie and 2 finchs'...we'll also be adopting another budgie soon from my friend who is expecting)

And no that's not an indication of things to come...we are NOT having 10 kids! 2, maybe 3, but certainly not 10!

You know the baby-yearn has gotten out of hand when you find yourself looking at your husband and imagining that face as a baby...yikes!

At least I'm back at work tomorrow, so I can look out the window and see some of the worst-behaved kids I've ever seen and remind myself what I love about not having kids and to make the most of it while it lasts!

I've always wanted to have kids, but only in the last year have I found myself to get really clucky...is this a side-effect of marriage no-one told me about?

  1. Hon, truly? It's absolutely hormonal...the tick of the biological clock isn't some fictional invention. My advice? Yes, it's nice to get your house in order, so to speak, but there's never really any "right" time. Whenever you do it, it will be wonderful and life changing and the best thing you will ever do. xox

  2. You're so right Amanda, I was talking to my Mum about it and she said that if they had waited for the "right" time they never would have had kids. My time will come I suppose, and I can't wait to meet my future kid(s)!

  3. I think it's definitely a side-effect of marriage! You're just so in-love that you want to increase your loving to another little person!

I think we're in exactly the same boat. :-)

  4. I agree, there is never a right time to have kids. And having gone through infertility and knowing now what I didn't know back then, I wouldn't wait. You just never know what could happen. We are going to complete our family soon. It's not the right time for us either, but after baby gets here we have the rest of our lives to fix things up. Baby bonus will help and we'll be able to refinance the house and get rid of our credit cards by then, too. It's certainly not a great time, but it's right for us and there will never be a right time, there is always something!

Whether you decide to wait or start trying now though, I want to wish you luck! And if you decide to start trying sooner rather than later, send me an email, I've got some info that can help you get preg faster ;)
